Hezbollah Chief Rejects Israel Talks, Proposes Five-Point Plan
In a statement, Qassem said the group “categorically rejects” direct talks with Israel and reaffirmed that Hezbollah will continue what it calls its “defensive resistance,” while refusing to disarm.
He also criticized recent indirect diplomatic developments, referring to two rounds of direct talks between Lebanese and Israeli representatives that reportedly took place in Washington under US sponsorship. These were described as the first such engagements in 43 years.
In his remarks, Qassem said: “In this atmosphere of sacrifice and dignity and the defeat of the enemy, the (Lebanese) authority rushed into a humiliating and unnecessary free concession, whose only justification is submission.”
He added: “The entry point and solution is to achieve five points before anything else,” outlining his proposed framework.
The five points he listed include halting what he described as aggression by land, sea, and air; Israel’s withdrawal from occupied areas; the release of detainees; the return of displaced residents to their towns and villages; and the start of reconstruction efforts.
He further argued that Lebanon’s authorities should not proceed in a way that, in his view, compromises national rights or sidelines what he called “resistance” forces within the country.
